My daughter and I used to take a puppy to a nursing home once a week, and quickly developed a close friendship with a sweet elderly woman named Thelma. Each week during our visits with Thelma, we could see her condition deteriorating. We spoke of God a lot, and she told me that she had a relationship with Jesus Christ. Thelma was always excited to see us and the puppy we brought with us, but one day she greeted us with extra enthusiasm. “I saw Jesus last night!” she told us. She said that she’d been napping, and that when she woke up there was a young man standing at the bottom of her bed. He was dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, and a sort of “driving cap”. This man told her that everything was going to be alright, and not to worry. Thelma said that she knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that the man she saw was Jesus.
A few weeks later, my husband and I were with friends, and one of the women shared a rather emotional story that had happened to someone at her church in a city several hours away. A young mother had died, and left her husband with several small children. The young father had stood up in front of their congregation to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and support. Our friend said that there was a great peace about him. The young man told everyone, “We’re going to be fine. We actually saw Jesus, and he told us everything will be alright, and not to worry. Funny thing was, He was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and a cap.”
